When I was newly married, I wondered why call one’s life partner the ‘better half’ ? I mean right in the beginning of the relationship why would one agree that the other is better than himself/herself?? Life partner is the appropriate term but better half? I think that’s a title one has to earn, isn’t it?

In their married life a couple goes through various phases together when slowly and gradually the truth dawns upon them that there is no perfect life and there is no perfect person to be one’s life partner either! In fact there are days when one is low, one is angry, one is not fully in control of his/her emotions or when one is just not up to himself/herself, days when one lacks the courage to stand up to the responsibility a situation demands and days when one lacks the strength to take decisions, on days like these one’s life partner is the one who may at times nag, crib, show anger as response or quietly balance one out but through any of those days a life partner is the only one who does not give upon them, he/she is the only one who DOES NOT LEAVE ! The one who syncs his/her life to the other’s and accepts the other one the way he/she is.

Knowingly and unknowingly in so many express and implied ways a married couple complete and complement each other over the years spent together that a ‘better half’ of the other is what they actually become….!

तुम्हारा साथ ही काफ़ी है

अपनी तस्वीरों में हमें संग मुस्कुराते देख

ये महसूस हुआ,

ख़ुश रहने के लिए मुझे

तुम्हारा साथ ही काफ़ी है !

प्यार भरे दिल के

जज़्बात ही काफ़ी है ।

पूरी ज़िंदगी के मुश्किलों को

एक दिन में हल करना

है मुमकिन नहीं,

पर उन मुश्किलों का सामना करते वक्त

मेरे हाथों में थामा

तुम्हारा हाथ ही काफ़ी है,

ख़ुश रहने के लिए मुझे

तुम्हारा साथ ही काफ़ी है !

प्यार कितना है ये किसी तराज़ू मे

तोलना तो संभव नहीं,

ना एहसासों की सच्चाई को प्रमाणित करने का

है कोई यंत्र,

पर मेरे दिल को जो तुम्हारी वफ़ा पर है

वो अटूट और दृढ़ विश्वास ही काफ़ी है,

ख़ुश रहने के लिए जीवन में मेरे हमसफ़र

मुझे तुम्हारा ये साथ ही काफ़ी है !
